What are your horse shoes?

Corrective shoes may assist this unhealthy hoof

Throughout our lives, there come pivotal moments where seeking support is needed for our healing and growth. Today, Tex, who typically goes barefoot, had to be shod due to persistent hoof cracks stemming from misalignment in his front legs. My farrier Matt highlighted, "Corrective shoeing can compensate for conformational issues and offer relief to the horse."

When facing “persistent hoof cracks” in your life, what resources do you turn to? A trusted friend? The unwavering companionship of your dog? Maybe it's the solace of a nature walk, or soothing music? These supports are essential, however sometimes we can also benefit from professional support especially when patterns of behaviour that once protected us become hindrances, or past traumas linger affecting our well-being.

It took me years to see a counsellor about something I had been ignoring. I thought by doing so I was acknowledging defeat, or that I was "really messed up". However, what I gained was new perspectives, corrective thought patterns, and techniques for self-acceptance to experiment with. More importantly, it allowed me to confront the underlying factors contributing to my challenge and begin long term growth. It was not an easy or quick journey. And of course, it’s an ongoing process. But knowing the resources I need to support me gives me hope and self-assurance.

I encourage you to take a moment to consider what supports you need, and what your resources are. Are you able to access them ok? Are they enough? Perhaps consider making a plan to draw on one of your resources this week.
