Maura Wilson
Maura Wilson is an Equine Assisted Learning Practitioner with a deep commitment to supporting young people in building confidence, connection, and emotional resilience. Drawing on decades of experience working with teenagers from disadvantaged and trauma-affected backgrounds, Maura specialises in gently developing rapport and fostering safe, trusting relationships.
Her career as a teacher and teacher librarian took her across remote, rural, and disadvantaged communities in Queensland, Western Australia, and the Northern Territory, including long-term roles in Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley and Arnhem Land. These experiences gave her a profound understanding of the impacts of trauma and the importance of safe, attuned connections in healing and personal growth.
Now, through Equine Assisted Learning, Maura combines her passion for education and wellbeing with the unique ability of horses to facilitate self-awareness, regulation, and relational skills. She is guided by a belief that meaningful connection—whether with people or animals—begins with feeling truly seen and understood.
At home, Maura shares her life with her beautiful gelding, Jack, and her energetic cattle dog, Mirri, who continue to remind her of the power of presence, patience, and trust.
